About the Course

Objective: To equip participants with the knowledge and skills necessary to design and write detailed, evidence-based Evaluation Case Studies that assess the processes, outcomes, and impacts of policies, programmes, or projects.

Core Topics:

  • Understanding Evaluation Case Studies: Defining the purpose, scope, and structure of an evaluation case study.

  • Framing the Case Study: Developing key questions, objectives, and aligning with evaluation frameworks.

  • Data Collection and Analysis: Identifying primary and secondary data sources, conducting interviews and document reviews, and synthesizing findings.

  • Writing and Structuring Case Studies: Crafting a compelling narrative with clear components, including introduction, background, methodology, findings, lessons learned, and recommendations.

  • Tailoring for Different Audiences: Adapting the case study for policymakers, practitioners, and educators, with attention to tone, language, and focus.

  • Ethics and Transparency in Evaluation: Ensuring ethical data use, respecting privacy, and adhering to professional standards in evaluation writing.

Relevance: This course enhances participants' ability to produce high-quality Evaluation Case Studies that contribute to knowledge management, organizational learning, and evidence-based decision-making. By documenting and disseminating experiences and lessons learned, participants support improvements in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of future initiatives, while enhancing transparency and accountability in public and private sector interventions.

Course Project: Participants will develop and refine an Evaluation Case Study, applying the principles and methodologies learned throughout the course to analyze a real-world policy, programme, or project. The Case Study should be at the quality for publication in a peer-reviewed journal.
